All excited, I headed to the thrift store last Friday and spent $57. on 5 jackets that I think have potential.
The jackets are all in very good to mint condition, smell good and are made
from nice quality fabrics. When I got home I steam cleaned them despite looking
and smelling fine.
This past weekend I chose the following jacket to redesign first. I chose it because of the gorgeous gold and black velvet
brocade. Brocade dates back to the wealthy noblemen of the Middle Ages and into
the Renaissance times. I believe recent,
popular movies starring vampires helped cause this fashion trend. It is fully
lined and original brand is, Newport News. Note how the print matches up and is
symmetrical on both sides. A sign of good quality. It is also fully lined.

AFTER REDESIGNING IT:
***A Little Shop Talk***I cut the bottom off to make it a
crop jacket and used the bottom to create a different collar. I actually just
placed the new, bigger collar over the old collar to give it volume and make it
stand up. It also has a lot of really
cool darts if you look closely on the back of the collar. Also I fringed it
with the fabric to give it a not too polished and more edgy look.
I found 2 extra snaps in the pockets and added them to the
front to close the jacket all the way. I made a velvet bow tie that you can pin
on front if you’d like. Right now I am totally digging the bow tie/scouts tie
look. I also added two velvet ribbon bows to back of sleeves. I did other stuff but getting into every
little detail I think will bore you so we’ll just leave it at that.
I will list the garments I redesign for sale here in my Etsy
shop : https://www.etsy.com/shop/dz9nr1?ref=search_shop_redirect
I had a blast designing this jacket and look forward to the
next jacket!
